Amal Movement Official: Our Ties with Iran Are Historic, Deep-Rooted and Strategic

Lebanon’s Amal Movement has held a ceremony honoring Iran’s ambassador to Beirut, Mujtaba Amani, in recognition of his diplomatic efforts and role in strengthening bilateral relations.

Hawzah News Agency- The event, organized under the leadership of Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament and head of the Amal Movement, was attended by senior Lebanese political, religious, and diplomatic figures, as well as representatives of resistance factions and media outlets.

Among the prominent attendees were Sheikh Ali al-Khatib, deputy head of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council; Seyyed Hamed al-Khaffaf, representative of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani; Lebanon’s ambassador to Tehran Ahmad Sweidan; and a delegation from Hezbollah headed by its international relations official Seyyed Ammar al-Moussawi. Several Lebanese MPs and senior Amal officials were also present.

The ceremony opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the Lebanese national anthem, the anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Amal Movement’s official hymn.

Delivering remarks on behalf of Speaker Berri, Khalil Hamdan underscored what he described as the “historic, profound, and deeply rooted” relationship between Lebanon and Iran.

“I am honored to represent Speaker Nabih Berri at this ceremony honoring the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Hamdan said. “We convey our greetings to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and to the leadership and people of Iran as we mark the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution led by Imam Ruhollah Khomeini.”

Hamdan also invoked the legacy of Imam Musa al-Sadr, founder of the Amal Movement, describing him as a central figure who supported the ideals of the Islamic Revolution and exposed the policies of the former Pahlavi regime. He stressed that from Imam Musa al-Sadr to martyr Mostafa Chamran and through successive generations of resistance leaders, Amal has remained committed to its founding principles.

“Our relationship with Iran is not temporary or circumstantial. It is a historic and enduring bond linking scholars and peoples of both nations,” he stated.

Hamdan praised the Islamic Republic for its steadfast positions in defending oppressed nations and maintaining scientific and political independence despite external pressures. He also commended Ambassador Amani for standing by Lebanon during difficult times.

“You shared in Lebanon’s sorrows before its joys,” Hamdan said, referring to injuries the ambassador sustained in a past security incident. “The Zionist enemy could not deter you from fulfilling your duty. Today, instead of bidding farewell, we say: until we meet again in your new mission in Iran.”

The Amal official also addressed recent security developments in southern Lebanon, condemning continued Israeli aggression and civilian casualties. He portrayed the situation as part of the broader narrative of resistance and sacrifice in the region.

In his remarks, Ambassador Amani expressed gratitude to Speaker Berri and the Amal Movement for the recognition. He highlighted the longstanding ties between Tehran and Beirut, dating back to the early years following Iran’s 1979 Revolution.

“For 47 years, the Islamic Republic has faced conspiracies, assassinations, coup attempts, and hostile technological warfare,” Amani said. “Yet all such efforts have failed in the face of the Iranian people’s determination.”

He added that nations confront challenges either through war, negotiation, or steadfastness, emphasizing that resilience remains central to both Iran and Lebanon’s experiences.

Reflecting on his diplomatic tenure, Amani described his time in Lebanon as meaningful despite hardships, including personal injury and the loss of key resistance figures such as Hassan Nasrallah. “Confronting Israeli aggression is a sacred duty,” he said, pledging continued efforts to preserve the strong bond between the Iranian and Lebanese peoples.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Khalil Hamdan presented Ambassador Amani with a commemorative plaque titled “Partner in Wounds and Resistance,” symbolizing what organizers described as shared sacrifices and a common path of resistance between Lebanon and Iran.
